First Mythic March Friday

All art by Josie Wren.

We are here! We’ve made it to our first Mythic March Friday check in. I’m curious how many people have already begun their creative pursuits for the month, and how many were waiting for this year’s first set of prompts. (At the end of this post!)

As a reminder, each Friday there will be three new prompts for the following week. Or hey, if any of the prompts really move you in a way that will last all month, feel free to just grab one by the horns (respectfully and/or consensually, we have a lot of horned fey folk around here) and run with it. Feel free to not use any of the prompts either. Truly this is a “challenge month” with about the loosest rules ever. As long as you are creating (or attempting to create) in a way that tries to spread magic, you are successfully participating in Mythic March.

Also, if you wouldn’t mind tagging #mythicmarch when you share what you are making on social media, we’d appreciate it.

My own personal Mythic March might be a bit less visually stimulating this year. Usually each week I have new pictures of art projects, photography, or crafts in progress to share. However, this year my resolution is to really focus on my creative writing. So this past week, a lot of my creative work has been in my head, brainstorming up new micro-stories for my Patreon rewards, and trying to work through the big twist/resolution in the initial outline of my novel project I hope to begin in earnest this month.

I am also searching through AirBnB for potential places to stay for a solo writing retreat sometime this spring. I’m very excited about the idea of taking a good few days to go away and get some solid writing done.

I can never quite stop being distracted by other creative pursuits, though, so I’m sure I’ll be popping in this month with other projects and things to share. In the meantime, I want to know what you’re working on, planning to work on, dreaming of working on.

And here they are, to closeout this blog…the first three challenge prompts. I hope you enjoy them!

Create a Faerie Animal

A fox who has actual foxglove gloves. A hedgehog with diamond needles coveted by faerie seamstresses. What new fey being can you imagine up in your mind?

World Jackalopes

Not all Jackalopes are from the Southwest. Where might yours hail from? How would it look? Or if you prefer, what other combination of horn/antler and animal would you create to make something similar to the Jackalope?

Unknown Fairy Tales

We’ve all seen art and crafted items inspired by Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Snow White…But what about the lesser known tales? What might Allerleiraugh’s cloak look like, as interpreted by fabric or knit? What does a prince riding a wolf (The Giant Who Had No Heart in His Body) look like?
